My research sits at the crossroads of applied mineralogy, geochemistry, and materials science. Starting from the study of historic lime-based mortars and their conservation, I moved into understanding amorphous-to-crystalline transitions and biomimetic surface modifications — asking how nature's strategies can improve building materials.
More recently, my focus has expanded to planetary geology and In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU): using volcanic deposits and lunar regolith simulants to develop construction materials for extraterrestrial environments. The common thread is always the mineral — its formation, its transformation, and what we can learn from it.
